Greenheck's strong growth keeps it Number 1 in air movement
and control.
Greenheck, America's leading manufacturer of ventilation equipment,
has come a long way since 1947 when it opened for business as
a tiny sheet metal shop in Schofield, Wis. Founders Bernie and
Bob Greenheck, though always determined to make their business
grow, never imagined how large their enterprise would someday
become.
And grow it has. Today, Greenheck designs, manufactures and
ships fans and ventilators, centrifugal and vane axial units,
make-up air units, energy recovery ventilators, dampers, louvers,
kitchen ventilation systems, and laboratory exhaust systems around
the world. No other company offers a wider selection of these
products. The company has sales in excess of $400 million annually,
employs more than 2,500 and has over 1.4 million square feet of
manufacturing space. No matter how you measure it, Greenheck is
number one in air movement and control.
Most manufacturing takes place in Schofield, a small city adjacent
to the northern Wisconsin business hub of Wausau. The company
also has two other damper/louver manufacturing facilities in Frankfort,
KY. and Sacramento, Calif.
Greenheck products are usually hidden behind the walls or on
the roofs of office buildings, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants,
schools, industrial plants and other commercial buildings. Their
function, basically, is to move air in, out and around a building--making
life inside a lot more pleasant.
Pride of ownership.
In 1997, the company paused briefly one Saturday night to commemorate
its 50th anniversary. But nobody spends much time looking at the
past; they're too focused on the future and their strong commitments
to new product development and customer service.
As a Midwest-based company, Greenheck's success is partially
due to the region's well-deserved reputation for quality workers
who have an unusually strong work ethic. Its people may be even
more motivated than most, thanks to an Employee Stock Ownership
Plan that's been in place for several years. The ESOP ensures
that every employee shares directly in the future success of the
company. From plant workers to senior engineers, these employee
owners are deeply committed to making continuous improvements
in everything the company does.
Investing in itself.

Corporate Offices and Facility
8 |
Greenheck consistently invests substantially in new facilities
designed to better serve its customers. During each of the last
five years, Greenheck has increased its manufacturing space by
an average of more than 65,000 square feet. The most recent expansion
projects were a 50,000-square-foot addition to its Schofield damper
and louver plant in 1998 and a 72,000-square-foot centrifugal
fan manufacturing center and corporate headquarters in 1997, also
in Schofield. Both of those facilities were built in response
to increasing demand for dampers and louvers used to control airflow,
and for the company's heavy duty lines of centrifugal, vane axial
and tube axial fans used in industrial settings.
The company's Product Center in Schofield, completed in 1996,
offers a general overview of more than 100 Greenheck air moving
and control products. It also provides customers and manufacturers
reps with opportunities to focus on individual products in both
static displays and working models. A unique bi-level area features
roof-mounted equipment above, connected by ductwork to interior
equipment below, to showcase roof-mounted units such as four-way
fans and kitchen ventilation systems. The Product Center serves
as an ideal training site for thousands of manufacturer's reps
and customers each year, with a dedicated presentation room complete
with full multimedia capabilities and a computer-based training
area.
